The third SCCA Solo National Tour of 1999 was held on April 10-11th in Dallas/Ft. Worth, TX in the Texas Motor Speedway parking lot.
What? There aren't any events here in Wisconsin this weekend? It must be time for a road trip!!
Denise just had Koni's installed on her Neon so we packed it up and headed south. Who says Tours
don't make good test events? For those of you who didn't get off the couch you missed some great scenery,
the purple trees south of St. Louis that were in bloom, awesome sunsets, and a wide variety of roadkill along the highway.
Plus, we saw some great road signs (besides the 75 mph speed limits) like "Don't drive into smoke" and
the "Vasectomy reversal" advertisement claiming it was 'micro' surgery. Favorite sights:
Tommy Saunders loosing a rear wheel mid-course, retrieving it, slapping it back on and finishing his run 10 minutes later,
the red MR2 going up against the blue Viper in the same ASP class, (I vote we move the MR2 to CSP) the most well prepared
AP Rx7 I've seen being pushed to it's limits and the beautiful runs of ESP winner Mark Madarash.
The sunburn lips and top of my head were all worth it. Results are posted.
Two Fastrack school cars head into T1
It's hard to get a feel for the banking without actually being there
Tom Lombardo in the EP Honda
Anthony Crawford in the EP Datsun
Cody Clark was in the large BS field
Look, something other than a Miata in BS!
Katie Kelly (Ace reporter) had the daisies but no "Got clinique?" magnets
Mark Sipe's BMW Z3 coupe ran in AS
It resembled a FWD car lifting it's inside rear in the corners
Brian Flanagan's 97 M3 finished 2nd in AS
James Thorton Jr. ran this beautiful 71 Opel GT in DSP on street tires.
Part of the DP grid. TLS member John Lieberman had
engine problems in the mini on Sat but had it going again on Sun.
It's not known whether duct tape saved the day or not.
Wally Strzelec's 99 FS Camaro could use some brighter numbers
Bill Thompson's beautiful Corvette won BSP
Peter Fehn won AP in this 84 Mazda Rx7
One of the many reasons to come to the Dallas Tour
"If it's not fast enough, just add more stickers!"
So, I'm not used to the R/T's slow steering, I'm all over the map on shock settings, I can't seem
to stop the inside tire from spinning, and it's only 50 degrees out during the 1st heat so the rear end
wants to lead the way. On top of that, I'm just not driving well. Maybe my heads still road racing or Roger Johnson's course is too 'tricky' for me but on this
Masters weekend, I'm a 9 handicapper playing like a 19. The ironic part? I make more contingency $$$ than ever before.
I would have had to drive my butt off just to podium in HS. Maybe this is why Neon's are so popular.
